I’m in the middle of a very busy two weeks (or more) so new blog posts will be kind of sparse. Yes, this involves going to the new job while wrapping up things at the old one. Also, while honing my skills in the last few months, I’ve also left things at home in quite the mess, which means just that much more time spent catching up on housekeeping.

No time for a picture today, but soon I hope.

Another excuse for not posting daily — I was getting myself a new job! Of course, my first thoughts about any job are: (1) can I ride my bike to work, and (2) will they let me wear spandex?

I will miss all the spandex I’ve gotten to see and touch in my current job.

I’m going back to Austin for Labor Day weekend. I’m wondering if any peeps want to meet for face time while I’m there. My real motive, actually, is finding someone who would like to put up with me Monday evening, because I’ll be leaving on Tuesday morning.

I noticed that one of my favorite blogs, LA Lycra, just suddenly disappeared. I’ve noticed that quite a few blogs hosted on Blogger have suddenly disappeared over the years, probably not the intent of the authors.

For a better blogging experience, I highly recommend WordPress. I host the free software on my own shared hosting provider. If you don’t want to deal with that, then try WordPress.com, which like Blogger, is a free hosting service with a lot of nice features.

I think it’s generally good sense not to leave stuff in a hot car, or, maybe equivalently, a hot cycle in the dryer. The car might be worse, because if you forgot about it, it’s just baking all day.

I felt bad that I left a pair of UA in the car. After I rescued it, I wondered how much damage it did. Might the waistband have been just a bit springier before? I can’t remember. Anyway, I can still wear it.

Here are my guidelines for taking care of your precious lycra spandex:

  • After you’ve done a good workout in it, don’t wait too long before washing. The salts, oils, and especially the chlorine (if you swam in it) are not good for the fibers.
  • Wash in cold water. At the least, the heat is not necessary.
  • Use gentle detergent, and don’t use too much.
  • It will dry quickly just over a chair or a line (indoors). If you use the dryer do NOT have any heat. The elastic bands (like in the waist or ankles) are most susceptible. Don’t put in direct sunlight either.
  • Store in a cool and dry place.
  • DO use your stuff.

So, guys (most of you are guys), what have you learned about taking care of your stretchy things? How have you accidentally destroyed something?

Another media exposure of lycra/spandex, this time about wearing zentai:

“We were online, and I saw this link and it intrigued me: a person encased in a suit,” says Ben, a 25-year-old computer programmer from Irvine, California. “My girlfriend thought it was the weirdest thing she had ever seen.”

But Ben saw something else—something he didn’t even know his life was missing. “I couldn’t stop thinking about it. After a couple of weeks of bringing it up, I convinced my girlfriend to let me buy one. Finally it came in, I put it on… and I felt free.”

Men Who Love Lycra — The Daily Beast

The Skin Tight party has been recognized by a national newspaper, the New York Times –

This is Skin Tight U.S.A., the occasional costume-fetish party held at the Stonewall Inn in the West Village, which draws a regular group of men (and their admirers) who enjoy a special kind of dress-up. Some wear heroic outfits; some, wrestling gear. The crowd can range from 25 people on an average night to 250 on a spectacular one. The common thread is that the muscle-cuddling garb often leaves little to the imagination.

Now you know how those gymnastics tops stay so well-tucked into those pants.
