Disappearances and Your Blog September 1, 2010
Posted by LK in : Uncategorized , 1 comment so farI noticed that one of my favorite blogs, LA Lycra, just suddenly disappeared. I’ve noticed that quite a few blogs hosted on Blogger have suddenly disappeared over the years, probably not the intent of the authors.
For a better blogging experience, I highly recommend WordPress. I host the free software on my own shared hosting provider. If you don’t want to deal with that, then try WordPress.com, which like Blogger, is a free hosting service with a lot of nice features.
Fabric Care September 1, 2010
Posted by LK in : Uncategorized , add a commentI think it’s generally good sense not to leave stuff in a hot car, or, maybe equivalently, a hot cycle in the dryer. The car might be worse, because if you forgot about it, it’s just baking all day.
I felt bad that I left a pair of UA in the car. After I rescued it, I wondered how much damage it did. Might the waistband have been just a bit springier before? I can’t remember. Anyway, I can still wear it.
Here are my guidelines for taking care of your precious lycra spandex:
- After you’ve done a good workout in it, don’t wait too long before washing. The salts, oils, and especially the chlorine (if you swam in it) are not good for the fibers.
- Wash in cold water. At the least, the heat is not necessary.
- Use gentle detergent, and don’t use too much.
- It will dry quickly just over a chair or a line (indoors). If you use the dryer do NOT have any heat. The elastic bands (like in the waist or ankles) are most susceptible. Don’t put in direct sunlight either.
- Store in a cool and dry place.
- DO use your stuff.
So, guys (most of you are guys), what have you learned about taking care of your stretchy things? How have you accidentally destroyed something?

Posted by LK in : personal , add a commentA good problem to have: too much spandex! If I don’t make an effort to use my stuff, it will just be idle. Solution: ride the bike more, and don’t be shy about wearing it to the gym.

Bloggers Kean and Anna share their admiration for track cyclists! (examples here and here).
We have long been fascinated by the human body, the graceful curves and the impeccable beauty is simply beyond anything we can ever dream of. Seeing a person in tight fitting wear with all the peculiarities and beauty of the human body intact is simply a sight to behold. [...] Appreciating athletes in full tight form fitting lycra gear but respecting them by offering a constructive analysis of their build.
And they, like me, have experience in the cycling industry.
Thanks for the link, btw.
